The Culcasi Family
has been the salt family
for more than 100 years
For four generations, the age-old traditions of the ancient salt workers from Trapani have remained alive here. In the name of work, hard endeavours and respect for the culture of an activity able to shape the identity of an entire territory.
Inextricably linked to the territory of the salt pans of Trapani, Saline Culcasi produces and markets the sea salt of Trapani respecting the traditional habits and rituals, cultivating and collecting this precious gift of the sea within the Salt-pans Reserve of Trapani which is a WWF area and a FAI. (Italian Foundation for the Environment) “luogo di cuore” (place of heart)

Marsala and Trapani Salt Pans: Differences and What to See
The salt pans of Marsala and Trapani are two distinct stops on Sicily’s western coast, often included in the same seaside itinerary. If you are planning a visit, knowing where each area is and what makes it different will help you decide what to see and avoid confusing landscapes, nature reserves and activities. This guide compares the Stagnone area in Marsala with the Trapani and Paceco area, with a closer look at Nubia and the Culcasi Salt Pans.
Handmade soap: how to choose and use it every day
A bar of soap can be a simple part of a daily routine, but ingredients, fragrance and production methods vary from one formula to another. Knowing what to look for can help you choose more thoughtfully and use a product in a way that suits your habits. Moisturising Body Cream: What It Does and When to Use It
A moisturising body cream is one of the simplest steps you can add to your daily skincare routine, yet many people only reach for one when their skin starts to feel dry or tight. Regular body care can help keep the skin feeling soft, smooth and comfortable throughout the year. Choosing the right product depends on its formulation, texture and, above all, the needs of your skin. In this guide, we look at what body cream does, when to apply it and which ingredients are worth knowing.
Face Toner: What It Does, How to Use It and When
A face toner is one of the best-known skincare products, yet its role is not always clear. Should you use it before or after serum? Does it need to be rinsed off? And is it really necessary? Modern toners can be hydrating, refreshing, soothing or formulated with specific active ingredients. In this guide, we explain what toner does, how to use it and when to add it to your skincare routine, with a closer look at sea salt and Acqua Madre.
History and territory: 38 centuries of history
The salt pans and the coastal territory have an inseparable relationship. The salt pans have in fact been an integral presence in this part of Sicily since 1200 B.C., with the Phoenicians who colonized this stretch of coast and began its exploitation.
Later, after the Battle of the Egadi Islands, which marked the end of the First Punic War, the Romans took control of them in 241 B.C. However, the true architects were the Arabs, who optimized their functioning and production after 800 A.D.
In the Middle Ages (1000 A.D.), with the Bourbons, salt became one of the main indicators of trade and Trapani its hub in the Mediterranean.
In 1995, its value in terms of biodiversity was recognized and the “Riserva Naturale Orientata delle Saline di Trapani e Paceco”, managed by WWF, was established.
The salt pan: salt production
The first example of a sustainable industry
The salt pans are one of the most iconic and evocative landscapes of Sicily, known for their natural beauty, intense colors, and the ancient tradition of salt production.
The panorama is dominated by shallow water basins, embankments, canals, and historic windmills.
Salt extraction is still active and productive today, producing a product of the highest quality. “Trapani Sea Salt” is a PGI product, Protected Geographical Indication, appreciated for its integral and artisanal qualities.
