The Saline Culcasi di Trapani become an open-air classroom, where students and teachers can enjoy an authentic experience discovering salt, its thousand-year history and the unique landscape of the salt pans. Thanks to the collaboration with Ecocampus and Keystone Lab, our educational offering combines science, history, environment, and culture in an interdisciplinary path that stimulates students' curiosity and critical thinking.
🌿Basic Experience - “How Salt Is Made”
Duration: 75 minutes
Accompanying teachers and students with disabilities: free admission.
The basic experience is designed to help students discover, in a simple and engaging way, how seawater turns into salt. The tour includes:
- Guided tour of the salt pan
Walk along the external banks to observe the evaporation basins, the changes in color of the water, and the functioning of the Archimedes' screw, a traditional tool used to raise water. - Visit to the Salt Museum
Entrance to an old 15th-century mill transformed into a museum, where students will discover historic tools, harvesting techniques, and the evolution of salt production over time. - Guided tasting
Tasting of whole salt and fleur de sel (natural and flavored), accompanied by our own extra virgin olive oil and local bread, to understand the connection between territory, taste, and tradition. - Sensory experience in the classroom
Final moment in the classroom, with tactile observations salt crystals, video projections and historical images, to consolidate concepts and stimulate questions and curiosity.
🔬 Complete Experience - Visit + Ecocampus Professional Workshops
For schools that want a greater level of in-depth study, it is possible to choose the Complete Experience, which combines the basic visit with scientific and anthropological workshops.
Total duration: basic visit (75 minutes) + workshops (60 minutes)

1. Chemistry and Physics Laboratory
A practical laboratory to understand the natural phenomena that make salt production possible:
- Evaporation and crystallization.
- Concept of salinity and concentration.
- Environmental balances in salt pans.
- Analysis and observation of salt crystals.
2. Ethno-Anthropological and Naturalistic Workshop
A journey through history, environment, and society:
- Biodiversity of salt pans and migratory birds.
- The role of salt in the Punic Wars and in the economic history of the Mediterranean.
- Evolution of the coastal landscape and environmental protection.
- Connection with the Egadi Islands and protected areas.
