Erice: the sunset on the Egadi Islands and the salt pans
Vanity Fair called it a passionate sunset. Surrounded by the Balio Gardens, near the fortress of the Castello di Venere, the panoramic sunset of Erice is among the most beautiful you can witness in this corner of Sicily.
Climbing up to more than 700 meters among the medieval streets of the village, you can reach the southernmost point of the small stone citadel. You can then look out and enjoy a breathtaking view of the entire west coast of the province. The traveler's gaze extends from the city of Trapani, just below Mount Erice, to the extreme tip of the town governed by Torre di Ligny.
From this view, you can admire the three Egadi islands (Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo - the most distant) enveloped in a warm and iridescent light while the sun slowly dips between the sky and the sea.
In front of the islands lies the chessboard of the Saline di Trapani, a geometric pattern of land and water that holds precious treasures of plants and animals. And from there you can cast your gaze even further, to the coast of Marsala, all immersed in the warm embrace of the setting sun.

The sunset on the Saline is perhaps the most intense sunset in this compilation. In this place, the strength of the fiery colors of the sky is doubled by the mirror effect of the sea water. In the salt pans the red light of the sunset is reflected duplicating the show of colors upside down. You could ask around, but we are sure that a sunset in Trapani on the salt pans would be worth an entire trip to Sicily!

The ancient watchtower built in the 17th century is located right on the north-western tip of the city. Here the two seas of Trapani meet: the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Mediterranean Sea.
