It is also excellent for relieving neck tension, muscle pain, sprains, and rheumatism as it has an analgesic and antirheumatic action.

Mint essence, thanks to its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, is useful in the treatment of boils, ringworm, scabies, ulcers, herpes zoster and dermatosis. Furthermore, due to its soothing action on itching, it is effectively used as a remedy against insect bites.

The stimulating and tonic properties of mint were also exposed in the 18th century. by Nicolò Lemery, in the Treatise on Simple Drugs.

The name of the plant, according to mythology, derives from that of the nymph Mintha, daughter of Cocytus, one of the five rivers of the Underworld, loved by Hades and transformed by Persephone, jealous of her rival, into this herb, and condemned to grow near the waters. However, in order not to completely disdain the god of the Underworld, the goddess allowed the plant to still possess something pleasant in some part of its body: the fresh aroma of its perfume.
